SAUNA

Design Proposal - 70m2- 1 Level - NEW ZEALAND - 2024

Inspired by tbe Scandianvian ‘winter  bathing houses’ in Denmark, Sweden and Finland, the sauna design aims to increase our connection with nature by shifting us from looking at the landscape to be emerged in it. Programme consists of change rooms, toilets, group saunas and a refreshment bar which serves drinks pre and post sauna. Designed as a focal point for visitors, the form and canopy aim to create a unque building with a recognisable identity. The canopy provides shade and shelter for the users throughout all four seasons.
The larger aim is to stimulate public swimming in the lake, creating a connection with it. This encourages ownership of the users to take an interest in the health of the lake and surrounding waterways now and in the future.
