SOMMERHUS

Design Proposal - 80m2- 1 Level  - SWEDEN - 2021

The unorthodox plan layout of the Sommerhus is driven by two factors. 1. Response to the site and surrounding views - with a slope to the rear spine of the house, its views are framed outward towards the lake beyond. 2. An experiment in contemporary living, where program is simplified to its most basic form - in this case manifesting as a volume within a volume. This also allows adaptation of the space to suit the occupants and guests. To enable the nature to be enjoyed at its purest, the house looks to tread lightly through utilising a CLT structure resting on wooden piles. The materiality is reflective of its surrounding environment and honest in its expression, tactility and finish. A central kitchen volume with integrated fire is the heart of the house. The bathroom and bedroom volumes divide the space for privacy, with a small nook placed in the left over space. Through its minimalist principles the Sommerhus aims to enhance the experience and connection with nature.
